NFL Junior Player Development:
Program Overview
- Programs are conducted at various dates throughout the year. Each camp holds 12 practices, which run at the site manager’s structured time frame.
- Participants will be introduced to every position on the football field through basic instruction in fundamentals and techniques.
- Curriculum is based on a step-by-step progression format that instructs participants in the basics of football by position.
- The fun and entertaining curriculum is designed to hold a participant’s attention while providing continuous interaction with the instructor and other participants.
- Each program site MUST consist of 150-200 participants, disbursed into six teams of 25-30 per session. Teams are selected according to weight in order to create competitive match-ups.
- The player to instructor ratio should be 8 to 1.
- All participants receive additional support through a life skills curriculum incorporated throughout all on-field activities. A different life skill message is designated as a theme for each particular practice.
- Camp incorporates a readapted form of competitions that allow for 150 participants to receive equal repetitions at a number of positions in real game situations with immediate reinforced instruction over a two-hour time frame.
- Participants earn points for proper execution of learned techniques as they compete head-to-head by weight class as well as in group competitions. In some team markets, an NFL JPD Jamboree is held as a culminating activity. At this event, teams play 8-on-8 with a constant rotation of teams and players.
- Program serves as a coaches’ training program for volunteers interested in becoming involved in coaching youth football.
- JPD kits which include instructional materials, DVD’s and operational guides are available to communities that are looking to improve their youth football programs.
